Winternight Trilogy
Book cover design
Objective
The project required that I create modern-day dust book cover designs for a three-book series/trilogy of my own choice using vector illustrations and vector typographic illustrations as the main communication method. The purpose of the project was to interpret the meaning of text, to visually communicate it to a specific audience, and to create engaging and creative visual images.
Solution
Through a Russian folklore illustration style, I was able to create dust book cover designs that all spoke to one another. All three book covers show the story of the character discovering magic and fighting against evil. The waves with shades of blue and eyes can be interpreted in many different ways, as in the first book it is the creature keeping an eye on her in the forest, in the second book it is the people who keep watching her, and the blue shades represent the cold Russian winter nights. The background, a starry night, allows the illustrations to pop and reinforce the idea of a cold Russian winter tale.
